A death certificate is a legal document that formally records a person's death. In Hyderabad, it is issued by the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) under the Registration of Births and Deaths Act, 1969. This document is essential for settling the deceased's estate, transferring property, claiming insurance, and pension benefits.
Documents required: Hospital death certificate or doctor's certificate mentioning cause of death, Aadhaar card of the deceased, address proof, relationship proof of the applicant, and a filled Form No. 2.
Where to apply: You can apply at the nearest GHMC ward office, the Municipal Administration office, or online at the Telangana government's Meeseva or TS ePASS portal. The certificate is typically issued within 7 working days for registered deaths in a hospital, and within 21 days for deaths at home.
For deaths that occurred more than 21 days ago, a delayed registration fee applies. For deaths more than a year old, an affidavit from a First Class Judicial Magistrate is required along with permission from the Registrar General.
