Islamic funeral rites (Janaza) are among the most time-sensitive in any religious tradition. Islam prescribes that the deceased be buried as soon as possible — ideally within 24 hours of death. In Hyderabad, with its large Muslim population, our team is experienced in coordinating all aspects of a Janaza with speed, dignity and full adherence to Islamic principles.
The first step after death is to gently close the eyes and mouth of the deceased and cover the body with a clean white sheet. The family should contact the local masjid or Islamic centre immediately. The body must not be left unattended.
Ghusl (ritual washing): The body is washed an odd number of times (usually three) by same-gender family members or trained volunteers, using scented water (with camphor or sidr leaves for the final wash). Women wash female bodies; men wash male bodies. At Hyderabad Funeral Services, we have trained male and female washers available 24/7.
Kafan (shrouding): After washing, the body is wrapped in a white cotton shroud (kafan). For men, three sheets are used; for women, five. The kafan is secured with strips of cloth tied at the head and feet.
Janaza Namaz: The funeral prayer (Salat al-Janaza) is a fard kifaya (communal obligation). It is performed in congregation before burial, typically at the masjid, at the burial ground, or at the home. A qazi or imam leads the prayer.
Burial (Dafn): The body is buried in a Muslim qabristan (cemetery), lying on its right side facing Qibla (Mecca). Major Muslim burial grounds in Hyderabad include Doodh Bowli Qabristan, Shah Ali Banda Qabristan, and Falaknuma Qabristan, among many others across Old City and new areas.
Our team arranges the ambulance with full respect for ghusl-ready transport, the kafan, qazi coordination, transportation to the qabristan, and all necessary documentation including the death certificate and burial permission from GHMC.
